In order for rhinoplasty to be safe and satisfying, “proven materials must be selected”

Rhinoplasty has been one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures in Korea for a long time. Recently, interest in choosing surgical materials is also growing as more and more people want more natural results with fewer side effects than simply raising the bridge of the nose. In the midst of this trend, Megaderm (Megaderm), a type of “donated dermis,” is emerging as a new alternative. According to Lee Kang-woo, Director of Mind Plastic Surgery, Megaderm is a cell-free allogeneic dermis derived from the human body, and a structure that induces tissue regeneration by removing the epidermis, cells, and impurities from donated skin, leaving only extracellular matrix (ECM) such as collagen and elastin. Because of this, it minimizes immune rejection during intra-body transplantation and has been evaluated for its high compatibility with the surgical site. Director Lee Kang-woo explained, “Megaderm was originally a material mainly used in breast reconstruction, burn treatment, and trauma reconstruction, but recently it has been applied to rhinoplasty and is attracting attention for its natural results and high safety.” He continued, “In fact, rhinoplasty using Megaderm has less artificial feel compared to conventional silicone implants, and there is a high level of satisfaction because it forms a texture and appearance similar to the patient's natural skin over time.” Many reviews of surgery using Megaderm are also shared by the plastic surgery community, and there are many reviews that although the bridge of the nose may appear slightly high in the early stages, it blends naturally with the skin over time to create a smoother line. One of Megadam's strengths is that it is suitable for patients with thin skin and poor tissue. In this case, when using existing implants or autologous cartilage, foreign body sensation or see-through phenomena may occur over time, and Megaderm compensates for these points to provide aesthetically natural results. It is also attracting attention in terms of safety due to the low risk of infection and the possibility of spreading. After transplantation, cell infiltration, angiogenesis, and tissue reorganization are induced, and since it blends naturally with surrounding tissues, there is little risk of side effects such as inflammation or infection. Director Lee Kang-woo said, “Rhinoplasty using donor dermal megaderm is particularly suitable for people who want natural results or are reluctant to use existing implants,” and advised, “However, since all surgeries vary according to individual conditions, it is necessary to go through sufficient consultation and precise diagnosis before proceeding carefully with experienced medical staff to expect satisfactory results.”
